Team Zyte hasn't drawn much attention recently as the new team is being put together in Turnhout, Belgium. The team has only participated in a few Division 2 races and the only result came from Ali Dharr's 3rd place in Thap Yai - Kut Kha Khim in Thailand. It's however all a part of the long term plans of putting together a team built for the cobblestone classics, and according to team manager Nick Lissner, everything seems to be working out as expected.
"The guys are working hard on and the many efforts put into team building is starting to pay off. The mentality is growing, and I really think we are heading in the right direction. Jeraldo [Piedrahita] has become incredibly fast in a sprint as we expected. His watt-measured are impressive. He's also starting to improve on the pavés. He will be deadly once he has the experience from racing. Phil [Philbert Heffron] has been guiding him well, and he seems to be a quick learner. We are confident right now", says the manager.
Philbert Heffron is however not the only rider contributing with lots of experience. Team Zyte recently signed the 30-year old Belgian Rene Portai who used to ride for Ursus RT. Along with Heffron, Portai will guide the young Jeraldo Piedrahita to success. Portai decided to dedicate the remaining years of his career to the talent development and his experience on the cobbles will be very important for the team.
"When Team Zyte gave me the offer, I gladly accepted. Helping out a young comet like Jeraldo is great. Phil [Philbert Heffron] and I are his mentors. He is awfully strong. I don't want to put too much pressure on him, but I think he can get far", said Rene Portai after his daily training with the young talent.
It's yet unknown when the team will enter in competition in order to win, as the team is purely focusing on the future. It's though quite certain that the team will not receive invitations to the two top divisions when its ready, as the team's rank has decreased ever since Äme Anderberg's retirement.
